Automatic or Manual Pricing?

I've been doing automatic with pretty good luck for the last month and a half. The price is definitely lower than much of the competition, but I'm getting lots of business. That said they just bumped the price up from ~$100 to ~$155 and I haven't had any hits yet this week.

The automatic prices lowers the price substantially IMO. But when demand is high, it seems to help. I usually check what the availability is and adjust according to that. I've had more success on manual then auto pricing. I've been doing automatic with pretty good luck for the last month and a half. Doing manual for like 2.5 years now. Played with automatic maybe for 5x in that duration with different cars. I think its overthinking how much effect rating/duration is for cars. If I pick auto, it'll bump the price like 30% more than what I'd put it on... Obviously, nobody would care for that. I have 2 spectrums, economy cars & luxury. Doesn't work for both.

I think auto pricing over rates your previous utilization rates and ratings. If I put it on auto pricing it sets my cars and literally double what I put for manual pricing on my high end cars. 2016 s3 is prices at $145/day and my 2015 gla 45 at 120/day. They would almost never rent at those prices. It does pretty well on my normal cars.

That's interesting feedback Cpm! Last time I tried them for 2013 Prius, it wanted $48 for it, when others were asking < $35. So nobody would pick mine for sure. I'll try again just to see...

Manual
Automatic doesn't work for economy cars. It's better suited for luxury vehicles.

If Turo would implement a MAX price like they offer MIN price it could work better. Airbnb does this. Also weekend pricing feature would be nice to charge more every weekend. In Los Angeles the most saturated Turo market, it's a race to the bottom in pricing. That's one reason I'm selling most of my cars and downsizing Turo business.

@aje: wow, it finally hit peak there in LA, huh? I was thinking when I'll hit that in SFO/bay area...

No way I would trust another entity to determine how much I'll make. My understanding of the market, temporality, and car value is my best tool to determine how much per day per car on each day. Be smart guys, it's your business. Take care of it and work it right.

Well sometimes the Auto pricing surprises me that my 2011 BMW 328 Convertible is getting $68/day again when I had it under $60 for the longest time when LA was more saturated. Seems demand is up again especially for nicer cars vs. cheap cars but there's a shortage of both at this time. When I have few cars available I like to try auto pricing but when nothing moves for days I go back to manual. It's good to experiment with it sometimes.
