What are your thoughts on imposing late fees?
I recently had a renter who returned the car 1hr11min late, due to him simply being confused on the return time (thought it was 6pm instead of 5pm so he still would have been 11min late). He was at a shopping mall at the time, about 40min from our meeting location. I began texting him at 5:06pm asking when he'd be on his way. He didn't respond until 5:30.
An hour +/- isn't THAT much time, but it made me late for an important dinner with my family, so I'm very annoyed.
What would you do? I'm a nice guy generally and so feel bad sticking him for another $100 in late fees (I could technically charge him a full day extension or $149); but I'm also pretty annoyed/angry.
On the one hand I think "If you let one person walk all over your policies, then everyone will" but on the other hand, how is he going to affect what other people think? By now it's already past 24 hours, and he hasn't posted a review yet (which also annoyed me) so I don't think he can. (I submitted a late fee request 22 hours after the return, so I'm good and Turo is waiting on me to say proceed or not).
